This Conference aims at making available the technologies which may support new policies on water and land resources use and conservation.The concept that water is an economic, social and environmental good stresses the need for the use of water resources to be environmentally friendly, and that water resources should also be available to sustain the environment. This perspective calls for innovative approaches in understanding and describing the hydrological processes, in assessing the impacts of economic activities, and in perceiving the role of water in its three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. The emerging technologies as shown in this Conference have the potential to provide responses to support new policies and allow hopefully for developments capable of establishing equilibrium between man and nature. The contributions to this Conference provide insight into recent developments in modelling hydrological processes and planning the use of natural resources under the constraints of economic, social and environmental sustainability. Innovative management issues, practices and tools are also proposed and analysed, mainly under the perspective of compatible economic and social aims with the environmental ones.
