The four major themes of the Symposium were the followings: Processing and microstructure: application of analytical and numerical techniques for the design of graded materials. Microstructure and properties: optimization of material or structural performance during both processing and/or service, testing. Modelling and analytical approaches for predicting the response of FGMs to thermal and mechanical loads (including determination of residual stress). Innovative applications. About three original papers were presented covering a wide range of topics from the traditional 'TBC' to newer engineering materials (e. g. the exotic 'bamboo' presentation). In order to achieve a high standard of quality, all papers were reviewed prior to publication.
It is particularly rewarding to notice that, in this very diverse and wide-ranging field, international co-operation and communication do flourish. Ceramists, materials scientists from 22 different countries and from many different backgrounds, disciplines, interests were brought together at this event. Furthermore, renowned keynote speakers and delegates attended the conference.
Souvent abordés de manière disciplinaire, les problèmes de frottement font rapidement apparaître des couplages qui rendent nécessaires des approches pluridisciplinaires. Thématique ouverte à toute la communauté des chercheurs en tribologie, qu'elle soit universitaire ou industrielle, qu'il s'agisse d'approches expérimentales, théoriques ou numériques. Les textes publiés présentent une application particulière, une problématique industrielle ou concernent des aspects fondamentaux.
The Third International Symposium on wood machining was organised within the framework of COST Action E35: «Fracture Mechanics and Micromechanics of Wood and Wood Composites with regard to Wood Machining».
L’objet des journées est de montrer l’intérêt d’identifier et prendre en compte les sollicitations auxquelles sont soumis les contacts le plus tôt possible dans l’avancement du projet.
