Laurent Vulliet is Professor of Soil Mechanics and Dean of the School of architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL). He got his PhD at EPFL, lectured at the University of Arizona (Tucson, USA) and worked in a Swiss geotechnical consulting firm before joining EPFL in 1994.
His teaching and research interests cover in particular the modelling of geomaterials, including the various coupling effects, leading to applications in environmental geomechanics and in natural risk management.

Environment Geomechanics is a relatively new discipline at the interface between built and natural environment. Il es devoted to the understanding of the mechanical behavior of geomaterials under various environmental conditions. The new theories and models developed in this context will find applications in a large field of engineering.
